Spring 2010

Don't Take Jack

Stage Manager (on book)

Novas Contemporary Urban Centre, Liverpool

This new musical was put on as a workshop production, put together in 16 days by a small number of the High School Musical 2 company. Calling a show under this kind of pressure was exciting and stimulating, and I enjoyed rising to the challenge enormously. Everyone was extremely pleased with the results, the show now looking at going to both the New York and Edinburgh festivals. It was a wonderful experience, a ride of adrenaline with great music to accompany the journey.

Winter 2009 - 2010

High School Musical 2: Live On Stage

Assistant Stage Manager
Stage Entertainment UK
No 1 UK Tour

As ASM for the stage left wing I was responsible for, on a weekly touring basis, unloading set to the venue from the truck, judging the best places for its storage and efficient use, unpacking props, managing and working with 2 local crew to ensure the safe and efficient running of the wing, and then packing it all up at the end of the week and moving on to do it again. I found it mentally engaging and physically demanding, and caught the touring bug.

Autumn 2009

Gilbert is Dead

Stage Manager (on book in rehearsals)

shiningMan

Hoxton Hall

Director: Robert Wolstenholme

Designer: Christopher Hone

During this show I had both SM and DSM responsibilities, including book and documentation creation, company welfare, management of an ASM intern and venue crew, running the technical rehearsal, communication between departments, and front of house duties during show running. A very hands on show, it was a pleasure to work on a piece where everybody mucked into everything, and a high level of detail was obtained, in a challenging but beautiful listed building.

Summer 2009

Peter Pan

Assistant Stage Manager (rehearsal intern)

PPKG Productions

Kensington Gardens Theatre

Director: Ben Harrison

Designer: William Dudley

Starting as an Intern brought in to supplement the SM team, in rehearsals my role aided the other ASMs in setting up for rehearsals in 3 spaces, and ensuring the needs were met. I also helped prepare the tent for the company, including health and safety assessment of substage and the appropriate actions needed.

During technical rehearsal, I was given an ASM plot to create – which I was then employed to do throughout the run. I also learnt other plots, in order to cover any ASM float days/the book cover ASM, and learnt performer flying. I was promoted to ASM fulltime flying Peter.

Acting For Stage Showcase

Production & Stage Manager (on book)

CSSD at Fortune Theatre

External to my degree, this was a great venture. As the only Stage Management/Technical member of this production, the title of this role attempts to cover all technical, company, and stage management requirements the show had, including but not limited to communication with the Fortune Theatre, creating calls, organizing the invited dress rehearsal, and running the technical rehearsal in a professional theatre – 18 scenes in 1 and a half hours.

Spring 2009

Dimetos

Student Assistant Stage Manager

Donmar Warehouse

Director: Douglas Hodge

Designer: Bunny Christie

As intern on this production I was able to observe the workings of a professional company and learn from this. I researched the sourcing of props, providing the stage manager and designer with viable options for them to choose from. Throughout the run I was able to facilitate the needs of the company while further understanding the process of a producing house company.

Autumn 2008

Les Liaisons Dangereuses

Deputy Stage Manager

CSSD – Embassy Theatre

Director: Kath Rogers

Designer: Brendon O’Connor

As DSM on a complex in rep show, I enjoyed some exciting cueing sequences involving flying, and flourished in my final production at university, doing the role I love most with a fantastic company.

Summer 2008

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Venue Stage Manager

Pleasance Edinburgh; Pleasance Below

The Pleasance Edinburgh in 2008 had 27 venues with 239 productions. As a Venue Stage Manager I was in charge of one of these venues, with up to 10 productions a day. I managed the set up of the venue, and liaised with performers and comedians as to their technical requirements. During the festival I ensured very tight turnarounds between shows were efficient and kept to schedule, managed 2 in-house crew and all performers, including crisis management and communication with senior staff, and sound and lighting operation for shows.

Summer 2008

Tales from The Vienna Woods

Deputy Stage Manager

CSSD – Embassy Studio

Director: Debbie Seymour

Designer: Joe O’Neill

A challenging and prop heavy show, this studio show saw my last venture with an extremely talented year from the Acting strand. I was proud to have been their DSM, and enjoyed the process enormously, learning a lot from Debbie.

Spring 2008

Angelina’s Star Performance

Crew

English National Ballet Tour at the Peacock Theatre, Sadlers Wells

During the time the Angelina Ballerina tour came to the Peacock Theatre I did their get-in, and a plot of running cues for the show, including live blackout scene changes. This was one in a number of shows I did the in and outs for as a Casual Technician here.

Spring 2008

Sfumato

Onsite Stage Manager

LDR at Victoria and Albert Museum

When this company was excitingly invited to be one of the first companies putting on a show at the Victoria and Albert Museum, they invited me to Stage Manage on the day, coordinating with the V&A team, making sure the get in, tech and show ran to schedule. It was a great experience for thinking on my feet, making decisions with everyone in mind.

Spring 2008

A Guest for Dinner

Stage Manager

CSSD in association with Punchdrunk; Collaborative and Devised 3rd Years at Arts Depot

Director: Maxine Doyle

Designer: Livi Vaughan

This promenade devised site-sympathetic piece was an extremely different and challenging experience, involving a lot of health and safety considerations and installation of a forest into the backstage of a theatre.

Devising was a process which enabled me to learn a lot about my method of working and how to adapt to the production’s requirements.

Christmas 2007

The Snowman

Followspot/Crew

Peacock Theatre, Sadlers Wells

Additionally to my followspot cues on The Snowman, I also helped with the set up and maintenance of the show on a day to day manner, including turning the theatre to and from a student auditorium when needed. I was a productive and valuable member of the team.

Autumn 2007

Feminist Neo-Burlesque Symposium

Stage Manager

CETT at Central School of Speech and Drama

This project required a team of 4 stage managers to help in preproduction, change a studio into a burlesque night club, run the talks, operate lighting and sound, and manage wing running during the show. We coordinated with the visiting performers as to their needs and accommodated them, as well as the audience.

Summer 2007

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Venue Crew

Pleasance Cabaret Bar

Crew in a team of 3 in a high profile venue with up to 10 shows at the Edinburgh Festival, including Frank Skinner, Nicholas Parsons and Sean Locke.  I worked to ensure performers were facilitated, schedules were kept to, involving tight turnarounds and large audiences. I operated lighting and sound (including radio mics) for some shows, and set up for visiting performers to the shows, as well as one off extra shows from other venues. I also helped in the strike of the Pleasance Edinburgh Courtyard Venue (containing 12 venues) back into its normal state of a student union.

Titus Andronicus

Deputy Stage Manager

CSSD Bridge Project – Studio 2

Director: Paul Tomlinson

Designer: Polly Laurence

My first DSM role at Central, I was also Stage Manager, coordinating and sourcing all props with the Design Assistant for a blackbox space show.

Summer 2006, Summer and Autumn 2005

‘N’ (Bonaparte)

Stage Manager (on book), Assistant Director at KO Festival, Amherst, USA

Stage Manager, Assistant Director at Plaza Theater, Boston Center for the Arts

Production Assistant, Lighting Operator at Black Box Theater, Boston Center for the Arts

Pilgrim Theater Company

Director: Kim Mancuso

Designer: Susan Rodgers

Initially joining the Pilgrim Theater Company as a Production Assistant, on the Open Rehearsals of this show, I aided the Stage Manager in sourcing and making props, and helped the Director with the organisation elements required. When they put on the show in the Autumn, they asked me back as the Assistant Director/SM. This involved running rehearsals, technical rehearsals, supervising the getting in of the technical elements, and organising the director’s schedule and needs. During the running of the show, I took on the role of Theatre Manager, organising both cast and audience, and managing 4 crew.

When the show got asked to go to KO festival in Western Massachusetts, I was invited back to oversee it’s revival, in my previous role but also to call the show, and liaise with the festival’s Technical Manager to ensure all requirements were met.
